Maditha Shawl knitting free pattern

May I introduce: Maditha!
For a long time I had made up my mind to knit my very own scarf and it’s finally done. And best of all: the pattern is free for you! As always, I tried to write everything down as clearly as possible so that everyone can knit the beautiful Maditha shawl.

I knitted the scarf with Draco yarn from Das Mondschaf. Actually, I had bought the wool for a cropped oversized cardigan, but once again I had to find out that the amount (as so often) was not enough. But there is worse, because this is how the Maditha shawl was created.

If you want to knit the scarf, you simply need a nice DK yarn and a 4 mm circular knitting needle.
In addition to knit and purl stitches, you should also know to make one right and make one left increases.
Don’t you know? No problem!
Sheep & Stitch has a super good video in which she explains these two increases. I have linked the video to you below under “Explanation”.

Informations

  • The shawl is knitted flat in rows
  • After each row you turn your work
  • The first and last 2 stitches are worked in garter stitch (knit on the RS and WS)
  • The 2 stitches in the middle are worked in stockinette stitch (knit on the RS and purl on the WS)
  • On every RS there’ll be 4 increases in total
  • On every WS there won’t be any increases

Material

For the Maditha Shawl you’ll need:

  • 260 g Das Mondschaf Draco (230m/115g)
  • 4 mm (US6) circular knitting needle, 80 cm (32 inches) or longer
  • 2 stitch markers
  • scissors, sewing needle

Gauge

10×10 cm in stockinette stitch
16 st and 32 rows
(washed and blocked)

Abkürzungen

st = stitch/es
r = rows
k = knit
p = purl
m1r = make one right
m1l= make one left
pm = place stitch marker
sm = stitch marker

Explanation

m1r = make one right
Pick up the bar between the last stitch you knit and the one you’re about to knit, bringing the needle from the back to the front. Then knit into the front of this stitch.

m1l = make one left
Pick up the bar between the stitch you knit and the one you’re about to knit, bringing the needle from front to back. Then knit into the back of the stitch.
